This IR Remote Control Kit is the fastest and easiest way to add wireless remote control to your project. It’s the same technology used by your TV remote, and it’s perfect for controlling robots, switching relays, playing media, or triggering any function on your microcontroller from across the room.
The kit comes with two parts:
- The IR Remote: A slim, handheld remote control with buttons (often 17 or 21) that sends out a unique, invisible infrared light signal when a button is pressed.
- The IR Receiver Module (KY-022): A small 3-pin breakout board that “sees” the infrared signal from the remote. It decodes the signal and sends a clean digital pulse to your microcontroller.
This system works by sending pulses of IR light at a specific frequency (almost always 38kHz). Each button on the remote sends a different code, allowing your Arduino or ESP32 to know exactly which button was pressed.

How to Use & Wiring
The receiver module has 3 pins. Please note that the pin order can change, so always check the labels on your board.
Common Pinout (Check your board!):
- S (Signal): Connect to a digital input pin on your Arduino (e.g.,
D11). - VCC (+): Connect to 5V or 3.3V.
- GND (-): Connect to GND.
